Is it true that western scholars think that collectivism restrains individual innovation? A large number of innovations have emerged in the rapid rise of collectivism-led East Asian countries (China, South Korea, Japan, etc.), and it is necessary to test the relationship between collectivism and innovation in these countries. Taking our college students as samples, this study uses two studies to explore the impact of horizontal and vertical collectivism on individual innovation and to examine the role of context of innovation needs. The results show that the relationship between collectivism and individual innovation is influenced by the nature of the team and the team climate: in a temporary team, horizontal collectivism does hinder individual innovation; but in a non-temporary team, vertical collectivism promotes individual innovation, and The atmosphere of high demand for innovation strengthens this promotion. Research has deepened our understanding of the relationship between collectivism and individual innovation.
