The Chinese Archaeology: Xia and Shang published at the beginning of the new century can be rated as a summarizing work in the field of Xia-Shang archaeology. Coming from field archaeology, it was born in repeated studies and discussions that went through uncountable courses from practice to cognizance. The most outstanding features of the book consist in the following aspects. Firstly, it has grasped all available field archaeological data and reflected related research achievements to the full. Secondly, it has formed its own systematic viewpoints upon the above basis and established a rather complete expounding frame. Meanwhile, as a fruit of collaboration and a crystallization of collective wisdom, the jointly-compiled book itself has symbolizing significance in the era of academic transformation.
