The United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the U.S. Air Force Tactical Laboratory (based at Eglin AFB, Florida) plan to study laser-guided missiles. This cruise missile is equipped with a laser radar, which can penetrate the active and important fixed targets in depth. This research project, called PBB (Moving Object) / OB (Fixed Target), may result in a new set of strategic weapons that can be used not only for the Air Force but also for the Navy and the Army. For fixed targets, CO 2 lidars can give high-resolution images if their position has been known from reconnaissance photos,
