巴尔扎克从小就喜欢文学,特别是诗歌。1816年,他进入法国图尔城法律学校读书,并加入了学校里的诗社。不过,巴尔扎克写的诗非常糟糕,句子枯燥不堪,也谈不上任何的意境和思想,同学们都嘲笑他是一个“根本不会写诗的可怜虫”。在毕业的前一年,巴尔扎克写了一部五幕诗体悲剧《克伦威尔》,但是这是一部完全失败的作品,不仅没人愿意给他出版,一个同学还这样嘲笑他:“你的句子这么没有诗意,不如直接写小说算了!”这个同学的话引起了巴尔扎克的深思,他心想既然自己写的句子
