斯威夫特是18世纪著名的政治家和讽刺小说家。《一个谦卑的建议》是他著名的政治性散文。作者通过极具艺术性的讽刺文笔和简洁生动的语言反映了一个正直善良的人对剥削社会的丑陋,残酷和虚伪的强烈控诉。辛辣的讽刺了在英格兰统治下的爱尔兰人民极其悲惨的生活,文章深刻的揭露了当时社会的民不聊生、饥民遍野、乞丐成群、官商勾结和在三年自然灾害下民族、宗教矛盾的激化。
Swift is a famous 18th century politician and satirical novelist. “A humble suggestion” is his famous political essay. Through highly artistic satirical writing and concise and vivid language, the author reflects the strong complaints of an honest and kind person about the ugliness, brutality and hypocrisy of the exploitation of society. The satirical irony of the Irish people under the rule of England was extremely miserable life.
