美国3M陶瓷材料公司开发了一种陶瓷基复合材料。称为西可耐克司(Siconex)。是由主要成份为Al_2O_3、B和Si的特种陶瓷纤维和碳化硅基体组成,其中纤维占30%,SiC基体占70%。先把纤维按元件形状要求缠起来,再用化学气相沉积方法涂上SiC。这种复合材料的抗热冲击能力要比普通耐火材料高得多,而密度只是他们的10%。它可在1300℃连续使用,并且允许用到1500℃高温。用它做成的工业炉真空型喷咀镶块,用以代替普通耐火材料整体喷咀,使用寿命可以大大提高,而且由于轻、薄(只0.04~0.06吋)容易装卸搬运,所以问世以后,深受热处理、钢铁、有色金属和石油工业的欢迎。
