小地老虎的为害状况,主要是靠近地面把植物幼苗整株咬断,或者食下茎叶的细嫩部分;为害马铃薯,一般也是同样状况的。今年3月7日,我在福建漳浦港口马铃薯田里观察它的活动清形,曾发现有几只达4龄以上的,能蛀食露出地面的马铃薯块茎:先从外部咬一无规则的伤孔,边食边钻进去,逐渐食掉块茎一部分或大部分的内部组织。到了天亮,便在相对的一边另穿一孔爬走;有的是全身隐藏在蛀洞里,并且还发现有2只同居于一起。这种为害状况,似乎以往还没有经过报导的。
