ABHD2 is a hydrolase protein expressed in human. Although the substrate is unclear, ABHD2 is closely related to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The ABHD2 gene is mainly expressed in non-tubular smooth muscle cells of alveolar type II cells and lung bronchi in the lungs, and is involved in the regulation of alveolar surfactant synthesis and secretion. Related studies have shown that ABHD2 knockout mice spontaneously develop emphysema phenotype. In addition, rs12442260 polymorphism of human ABHD2 gene may increase the risk of COPD. Therefore, ABHD2 gene plays an important role in the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This article mainly reviews the relationship between ABHD2 gene expression and COPD, emphysema and other diseases.
