青岛是中国十大最具经济活力城市之一,市南区位于青岛市市区南部,是青岛市历史最久的城区之一,同时也是青岛市的行政、旅游、文化、商贸、金融、科技中心1992年,随着市南区东部开发启动,青岛市委市府、市南区委区府等政治、行政机构陆续东迁至今天的香港路一带,全市新的商贸和金融及科技重心、休闲娱乐设施、文化与旅游新景观也由此聚集市区东部,逐渐形成繁华商圈,且其发展趋势为沿海岸线向陆地辐射。
