It determines the characteristics of the climate in different parts of the globe, the speed and direction of ocean currents, the movement of air currents and atmospheric vortexes, and the formation of cyclones, tornadoes and hurricanes. The growth of animal organisms in the oceans depends on the water temperature, the degree of dissolution of various chemicals after they have entered the ocean, or the rate of sedimentation to the ocean floor, as well as the temperature of the water. Therefore, timely and accurate collection of ocean temperature information is very much needed.
