Contemporary experimental physicist Robert Hofstadter was born in New York in 1915 and graduated from City University of New York in 1935. The talented young man had always wanted to be a writer, but his exaggerated essay had only Grade C, but Physics had Grade A, so he did so. 1938 Master and Ph.D. in Princeton University. Since then, he began his career in physics. He was promoted to professor in 1954 and won the 1961 Nobel Prize in Physics seven years later for his scientific accomplishment - determining the shape and size of the nucleus.
