It is well known that while some parasitic infections are more likely to produce IgE antibodies in mice, mice infected with schistosomes do not necessarily induce IgE antibody responses. This study shows that some mice reproducibly produce high-titer IgE antibodies to S. japonicum antigen (Sj) and demonstrate that IgE antibody responses are controlled by genes linked to major histocompatibility complex sites. The authors white rabbits and mice that were bred from outbred lines in the laboratory maintained the life cycle of the Japanese strain of Schistosoma japonicum. Schistosoma japonicum antigens were prepared according to the modified method of Chaffee et al. (1954). Four batches of antigens were used in the study. The authors mixed 10μg of Schistosoma japonicum antigen in the containing
