有学者提倡一种美学上的“主义建构”和美学纯化论,即美学只能研究那些正面的类型和范畴,如美、崇高、平和、愉悦、高雅、完美等,而不能研究和关注那些负面的类型,如丑、荒诞、恐怖、恶心、媚俗等。这一观点应该抛弃,因为它既不符合美学的历史,也与美学的现状背道而驰。美学的当务之急是如知识考古学那般地梳理和研究清楚美学的概念和范畴,尤其是新世纪以来,随着新的审美和艺术现象的大量涌现,美学研究需要扩容和重新划界,把那些一直以来深刻影响和制约美学发展的、但可能是非美或反美的新类型、新范畴纳入美学的殿堂,而不能狭隘地理解美学为“美”学而加以拒斥。
