A new synthetic model ice, DUT-1 model ice,was developed. This paper describes the procedures for mak-iug the model ice and details its ingredients, grain size distri-bution, structure, density and elastic modulus. Based on itsmeasured density, DUT 1 model ice has steady mechanicalproperties and is stable for sufficiently long period to performice modeling tests. The relationships of the measured elasticmodulus with water amount and density were worked out.
