“You can only look up and you can not look down.” Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the only way to go from Zaire to West Africa. We stayed here for two days in exchange for the plane. Its capital, Lagos, is made up of three adjacent offshore islands: Lagos Island is the seat of government agencies and large corporations and big banks, Ikoye Island is a residential area for wealthy businessmen, and Victoria Island is the embassy district. Look up at Lagos from the sea, a modern city: row upon row of new skyscrapers; the grand steel bridge that links the three islands to the mainland; and the cost of up to a million dollars per kilometer on an elevated highway Flow continuously. In order to prevent the highway from being blocked, only one-number cars can pass one day, and only two-number cars pass on the other day. Despite this, half an hour’s journey still needs to start an hour early.
