This paper presents a study of the failure analysis of parts using a combination of chlorination and self-radiography to provide a new and extremely sensitive method of displaying surface and subsurface microdefects. This technique has the advantage of being extremely sensitive, capable of displaying surface cracks with an opening width of 0.05 μm and superior non-destructive detection of subsurface microdefects over other methods.
