After the world’s tungsten industry experienced a recession in 1982, it continued to decline and further deteriorate in 1983. Demand dropped sharply in 1982 and prices plunged. Continued recession in 1983 led to a decline in production and the closure of more than one-third of the world’s mine capacity. However, a significant recovery of the 1984 requirement is expected.
