In the early 1970s, Willing et al. First made a room temperature nuclear radiation detector with a mercury iodide crystal. Hitherto, the crystal of mercuric iodide has been developed as one of the important materials for the preparation of room temperature nuclear radiation detectors. In recent years, the research on this material has been very active. The preparation of nuclear detectors with HgI 2 crystals requires firstly the higher purity of the material. Recently, it has been noticed that the deviation of this material from the quasi-stoichiometry is an important factor affecting the performance of the detector.
