The Altyn Tagh fault has a linear and arc superimposed geometry and a strong spatial-temporal heterogeneity. The Altyn Tagh fault is a giant fault system with both thrusting, left-lateral strike-slip and positive-slip complex mechanics. The main periods of strike-slip and slip-slip are Cretaceous-Cenozoic and Pliocene-Quaternary, respectively.
