According to foreign media reports, Cummins and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is developing a new material for heavy truck engine repair. When the vehicle under long-distance driving in harsh conditions, easy to cause damage to the engine. Instead of replacing the engine’s cylinder head, the team came up with a new approach - first “hollowing out” the worn parts and then using additive manufacturing techniques into high-performance alloy parts, and the latter’s Quality is higher than the original castings. Developed by ORNL, this 3D printing process can be used to repair and enhance the durability of Cummins engines without the need to recast parts, dramatically reducing costs and increasing energy savings.
