2011年,是著名福州评话作家杨醒吾先生诞辰80周年。他仙逝时才50岁,去得太早,带走了福州评话“捏骨”(安排故事情节,设置书目悬念)与“写句”(编写唱词)的宝贵经验,令人惋惜。杨醒吾,诨号“眼宝”。他的娘舅是福州评话先生,父亲经营着一家为社火及婚丧喜庆提供张灯结彩和茶水服务的店,与评话高台离得很近。他从小受到熏陶,酷爱听评话,加之天性聪慧,对评话艺术渐入门道。小学毕业后他便饱读通俗演义小说,并尝试把演义小说改编成福州评话。
