Since Bouroncle et al. First reported hairy cell leukemia in 1958, the clinical course of this chronic lymphoproliferative disease and its diagnostic criteria have been further clarified. The most common disease occurs in men aged 35 to 55 years, characterized by various types of cytopenias, splenomegaly and peripheral blood hair cells in varying numbers.
