如同汽车、飞机也会发生故障一样,在太空飞行的通讯卫星有时也会出现各种各样的故障。自从有了航天飞机以后,这些价值连城的卫星,也能在宇宙空间修复了。一旦在太空中飞行的卫星发生故障,航天飞机便升空携带修理卫星的太空人进入太空。待找到失灵的卫星以后,太空人便点然一颗短程的火箭。这枚火箭将一个闪闪发光的银色物体推出航天飞机的货舱,这个物质便是“舱外活动动力装置”。它犹如一张椅子,太空人背负氧、氮等混合气体装置,坐在上面,作飘飘逸逸的太空散步,走向需要修理的卫星。
