British Caribbean writer Jane Reese is a multi-cultural writer. Jane Rees was born in Dominica, a British colony in the West Indies, with a British Welsh father and a Creole, a descendant of European immigrants. This complex background, which belongs neither to the British nor to the colonies, has led to the uncertainty of its cultural identity and the crisis of cultural identity. Jane Rees is a marginalized person in the West Indies cultural gap. The rootlessness and marginalization of cultural identities are well represented in her works. To explore the cultural identity of Jane Reese, analyze the cultural identity crisis of heroine Antoinette in the novel “Algae”, exposing the evil of patriarchy and colonialism.
