高等教育问题是国家发展的重中之重,所以历来备受关注。1920年代,对于教育界来说是个多事之秋:学生闹学潮、教育经费得不到解决、校长或教师的频繁更换等,更是引起人们对教育问题的广泛关注,而这个时期同人刊物的兴起,恰好给人们提供了一个发表看法的平台。学者们共同关注着1920年代中国教育的发展命运,提出建设中国大学的建议。其中,现代评论派以“精英治国”的理念对高等教育进行的评论和提出的建议,在当时是很有新意的。尽管由于时代和刊物本身的原因,这些建议大多石沉大海,但是他们对教育问题的看法和思路,在一定程度上结合了欧美的经验和我国存在的实际问题,开启了人们看待教育问题的理性视角。
