大凡学习者,无不希望有一个安静的环境,充裕的时间。然而,希望并非皆现实,尤其自学者,大都不能如愿。上班工作应筹不暇,下班家务忙得不可开交,孩子的吵闹,电视的干扰,球赛、舞会的招引,使人难以宁神静心地去学习。面对这样的环境,有的人灰心泄气,“悬崖勒马”了,有的人慷慨启闸,任宝贵的时间付诸东流;有的人掩书翕卷,弃书从俗而行“乐”矣。这些,都是有志自学者不足取的。 诚然,就一般情况而言,好的环境会有好的学习效果是不能否定的。然而,历史上在逆境中成就学业、名垂青史的也是不乏其例的。明朝的宋濂幼时嗜学,家里很穷,买不起书,常常向富有人家借书抄录。即使“天大寒,砚冰坚,手指不可屈指,”也“弗之怠”。为了求师,他常常在严冬季节,身穿破旧衣服,踢拉着鞋子,背着书箱,顶着凛冽的寒风,踏着数尺深的大雪,跋深山巨行谷趋百余里,寓寒舍,日两餐。冻得手足皲裂,四肢僵硬不能动。这种学习环境可谓“艰”极,但宋濂却以“勤”相对,以“恒”相克,遂成学业,终为著名的文学家。尽管现在有些人的自学 Mostly learners, all want a quiet environment, ample time.
