我国的改革开放,掀开了中国当代黑白木刻创作的新篇章。黑白木刻创作摒弃了中国现代新兴木刻联系革命、服务政治的模仿欧洲风格和一改成长时期新兴木刻“为革命而艺术,为人生社会而艺术”的历史使命感,大批社会现实主义版画杰作的涌现标志着中国黑白木刻创作的成熟。极具乡土特色的四川画派、强烈色彩的北大荒画派和独具韵味的江苏画派等地域性版画创作流派改变了多年来木刻创作的边缘状态,黑白木刻创作呈现出百家争鸣的新风貌。
