国际共产主义运动的挫折和对马克思主义“经济决定论”的批判是各种形式的文化研究兴起的重要原因,但斯皮瓦克也意识到“文化主义”的偏颇,认为应该破除经济文化二元对立的思维。因为“新殖民主义”、不平等的国际劳动分工以及全球化背景下的第三世界女性主义,都痛苦地证明着马克思劳动价值理论在今天的阐释力和批判力。不仅在后苏联时代的欧洲,同时也在全球化背景下的第三世界,重读马克思尤其是劳动价值理论都有着十分现实的意义。
