In June 1996, Rangying and her companions caught the attention of Atlanta City, in the Uinted States, this resulted from their participation in the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay held in that city.Rangying and her companions represented the lucky participants of China’s Project Hope. 1. 2 million children have, to date, been able to continue their schooling since the establishment of this project.Rangying was born in a Tibetan family in Heshui County, Sichuan Province. She had twice dropped out of school because of her straitened family circumstances. It was the Project Hope that enabled Rangying and her companions to finish their primary and junior middle school education. Rangying is now a student at the senior Chengdu Pacific Middle School.
