袁隆平(1930.9.7～)农学家、杂交水稻育种专家,祖籍江西省德安县。1953年毕业于西南农学院农学系。毕业后,一直从事于农业教育及杂交水稻研究工作。 1991年受聘联合国粮农组织国际首席顾问。1995年被选为中国工程院院士。由于杂交水稻种植的推广,产生了巨大的社会效益和经济效益。1979年出席菲律宾国际水稻研究所科学年会,被国际同行誉为“杂交水稻之父”。2001年2月19日,在北京被授予二○○○年度中国国家最高科学技术奖。
Yuan Longping (1930.9.7～) agronomist and hybrid rice breeding expert, native of Dean County, Jiangxi Province. In 1953 graduated from the Department of Agriculture, Southwest Agricultural College. After graduation, he has been engaged in agricultural education and hybrid rice research. In 1991, he was appointed as chief international advisor to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. In 1995 he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Due to the promotion of hybrid rice cultivation, great social and economic benefits have been generated. In 1979, he attended the Scientific Annual Meeting of the International Rice Research Institute of the Philippines and was hailed by his international counterpart as “the father of hybrid rice.” On February 19, 2001, he was awarded the China National Top Science and Technology Award in 2000.
