The anti-HIV activity of Ln(NO3)3·nH2O in vitro was studied. The cytotoxic effects of samples was tested by colorimetric MTT assay to obtain IC50. EC50 was determined by the inhibition of syncytia formation induced by H9/HIV-1IIIB. The assay of the protection effect of the samples on the MT-4 cell infected with HIV-1 was used to test their EC50 and CC50. The therapeutic index (TI: IC50/EC50) was conclude. AZT is the drug for positive control. AZT∶TI=14798.96; Ln(NO3)3·nH2O∶TI=4533.97; Ce(NO3)3·nH2O∶TI=125.62. Ln(NO3)3·nH2O has strong in vitro anti-HIV activity, and Ce(NO3)3·nH2O has in vitro anti-HIV activity.
