一简要生平许钧,字平石,号子猷,又蘧庐散人,散一居士、凝一居士。一八七八年《光绪四年》夏历十月二十二日生于开封市塘坊口。其祖籍为开封县杏花营乡邢村(原名杏花村)。因黄河决口其父身背老母由杏花村逃至开封市,以卖白开水和为人推车送水力生,许钧便降生在这样一个贫贱的家庭里。许钧幼年即聪慧过人,父母甚爱,对其寄于很大希望,节衣缩食供其读书,私塾先生也为其天资神敏而特别看重,破例免费接纳就渎,着意授之以文字学。许钧也刻苦学习,常以‘悬梁刺股’之精神勉励自己,故学业精进。学业之余‘即好书画、东涂西抹’(许钧《李星若传》),与书画艺术结下了不解之缘。一八九六年,许钧又拜李星若先生为师。李星若,河南延津人,光绪丁酉拔贡,弱冠读尽群籍,折衷于程朱之学而笃守之。星若先生告诫许钧说:‘非圣贤之书,均不可读,以免误入歧途。’(许钧《李星若传》)并对其寄于厚望,谓其‘天资甚高,熟读深思异日必有所得。’(许钧《李星若传》)然对其于书画之用功却不以为然,视书画为偏才,曾谓许钧:
