In May 1991, the press revealed an astonishing news that Israel successfully organized an air rescue operation code-named “Solomon Operation” to remove more than 14,000 Ethiopian black Jews from Addis Ababa within a day Pakistan transported to Israel. Commenting on the news, the United States said the New York Times said it was the first time in history that so many African blacks were not being slaves, but were being transported from one country to another as free people.
