  威斯坦·休·奥登(Wystan Hugh Auden,1907—1973),英国出生的美国诗人、剧作家、文学评论家,中国抗日战争期间曾在中国旅行,并与其同伴小说家伊舍伍德(Christopher Isherwood)合著了《战地行》(Journey to a War)一书。奥登是一个多才多艺的诗人。他不但能写严肃诗,而且还能写轻松诗或打油诗,诗体更是多种多样,以能用从古到今各种诗体写作著称。他被认为是继叶芝和艾略特之后英国最重要的诗人,代表作有《西班牙》(Spain)、《新年书信》(New Year Letter)、《焦虑的时代》(The Age of Anxiety)等。1948年,他赢得了普利策奖,1953年获得博林根诗歌奖,1956年获得全国图书奖,1967年获得全国文学勋章。
  奥登的这首《Funeral Blues》最先是出自他和伊舍伍德合写的剧作《攀登F6高峰》(The Ascent of F6,1936),诗歌的主题是纪念逝去的爱人。如果看过当年那部英国影片《四个婚礼和一个葬礼》,你一定不会忘了这首深情的诗。那句“我以为爱可以永恒不朽:我错了”不止能让你的心,可能连骨头都要碎掉。什么山盟海誓、天长地久,都在“我错了”这几个字中分崩离析,让人肝肠寸断。
  曾经看过电视剧里的一个很烂的桥段:“女主角问男主角:你我总有一个要先走,你希望是你先死,还是我先死?男道:我希望你先死去。女面露愠色。男又道:我宁愿把思念的悲痛留给自己……”如若视彼此为今生所爱,逝者万事皆空,留者却长陷无尽的哀思,自然生比死更难受。去年微博上有一条小新闻被多次转发,说的是美国一对年迈的恩爱夫妇,在丈夫自然死亡两小时后,妻子也因为自然原因去世。在经历了漫长的十指紧扣的岁月后,天公作美,能于同年同月同日死,那才是最美的结局。
