在大学四年的工艺美术专业学习中,我只知画画,不知道什么是学术研究。上个世纪70年代末,我到中央工艺美术学院跟随副院长雷圭元教授进修,这次机会可以说是我学术旅途的起点。当时正是“拨乱反正”之后,人人对知识如饥似渴。我们有机会听名师讲课、在图书馆博览群书、流连于各大博物馆和琉璃厂旧书店,学识大有长进。尤其是一年间两度去敦煌莫高窟的考察、临摹使我得益甚多。此后又留京协助雷先生编书半年。这一年半使我从懵然走向清醒,有了很多“顿悟”。这期间的收获不仅是积累了知识,更重要的是学会了总结规律的方法,看到了史论研究的前景。当然,从觉悟到出成果还有一个过程,我真正发表有点见解的论文、专著的时候已是1980年了。从那时起,我始终处在边积累、边教学、边研究的状态。所以说,我的学术经历总像是在旅途中,行色匆匆。
In four years of university arts and crafts professional study, I only know painting, do not know what is academic research. In the late 1970s, I went to the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts to pursue a fellowship with Professor Lei Guiyuan, the associate dean. This opportunity can be considered as the starting point for my academic journey. At that time it was just “chaos chaos”, everyone hungry for knowledge. We have the opportunity to listen to the teacher lectures, reading books in the library, hang around in major museums and Liulichang old bookstore, a lot of learning. Especially twice a year to Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, copying so I benefit a lot. After that, he left Beijing to assist Mr. Lei for six months. During the past year and a half, I suddenly went awake, with a lot of “epiphany.” The harvest of this period not only accumulated knowledge, more importantly, learned to summarize the law, saw the prospect of history research. Of course, there is still a process from realization to achievement. I actually published some dissertations and the monograph was 1980. Since then, I have been at the accumulation side, while teaching, while research status. So, my academic experience is always like traveling in a hurry.
