英语定语的隔裂现象是一个很复杂的问题,特别是不容易弄清楚其所说明的对象.因此往往造成理解错误,从而导致误译.在教学中、学生常因搞不清隔裂定语与其被说明词的关系而“张冠李戴”成为学习中的拦路虎.一般语法书对这一问题,有的根本就不讲,有的讲也是一略而过,没有作过系统的论述.本文的目的主要是根据笔者对在教学中所见到的各种隔裂定语的隔裂现象进行判断和分类,试图帮助学生解决在学习中因定语隔裂而找不出隔裂定语所修饰的中心词,因而产生的理解错误和随之而来的误译问题.为行文方便,下面分几个问题来谈:一、英语隔裂定语的种类所谓隔裂、主要是指定语与被说明词之间被其它成分所隔离.语法书上一般都规定:介词短语,动词不定式短语,分词短语和定语从句作定语时一般要后置并且要紧紧和其被说明的词相连.如:
