Thank you for inviting me to join today’s event. I am neither an architect nor a Chinese expert, so you may wonder what I would do in such a conference on Chinese culture and architecture. I will use some expositions to explain why I can contribute to this meeting. I am not an architect, but I have often worked with architects over the past few years. In Beijing, I shot a long documentary on the Olympic Games spanning from 2003 to 2008. I came to Beijing more than 20 times and broke ground from the Bird’s Nest to the opening of the Olympic Games (Figure 1). I witnessed the entire construction of the stadium and saw the preparation by Herzog and De Mellon, the Swiss architect in charge of the project.
