In this paper, Co-Mo catalysts deactivated after industrial use were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and surface area analyzer. The results show that the major phase impurities in the deactivated catalyst are FeS, FeSO_4 and so on. Compared with the non-deactivated catalyst, the main active phase, MoS_2, is crystallized obviously and K is present in the form of K_2SO_4. Soaring (T> 700 ℃) makes part of K_2SO_4 into K_2S_4O_6 phase, part of MoS_2 evaporated. Contamination of impurities reduces the specific surface area of the catalyst from 113 m 2 / g to about 20 m 2 / g, which is one of the main reasons for the permanent deactivation of Co-Mo-based catalysts.
