山东省郯城县,是农耕历史悠久的地区,从近年在当地出土的新石器时代的石斧、黑陶、红陶等文物证明,至少在六、七千年前就开始农业生产了。郯城银杏,栽培历史悠久,该县新村红石崖观珠寺遗址上一株银杏,据碑文记载,唐朝重修观珠寺时已是大树。现在树高36米,胸围7.4米,仍枝叶繁茂,年年种实累累。郯县银杏产量多,质量好,现有成林3816亩,58900余株,其中百年以上的大树28000多株,年产银杏一百余万斤。银杏重点产地在该县沂河两岸的新村、塔上乡和重坊镇三个行政区域的40平方公里内。其中新村、王桥村两村周围3平方公里的河潮土上,占全县总林木的70％,产量占全县的1/2—1/3。
