Sporozoite peripheral (CS) proteins are some of the protective antigens of Plasmodium species. Monoclonal antibodies against CS protein were immunoprecipitated with two other intracellular polypeptides (IS_1 and IS_2), which were obtained from the parasite extract metabolized by [~ (35) S] methionine. The authors compared CS and IS from Plasmodium berghei, Plasmodium naivensis, Plasmodium cerci, and Plasmodium falciparum by biphasic electrophoresis and reverse phase high pressure liquid chromatography. In the case of reduction and non-reduction, the molecular weights of CS, IS_1 and IS_2 of these Plasmodium species ranged from 42,000 to 67,000. Their isoelectric point range is 4.7 to 6.0. The CS and IS proteins isolated from each of the plasmodium species react with the respective monoclonal antibody to produce a very similar peptide map.
