钢的淬透性即钢的奥氏体化后接受淬火的能力,也就是决定钢淬火后从表面到内部硬度的分布情况。淬透件是研究钢的性能和设计零件、机件的一项重要数据。例如,淬透性对于汽车齿轮钢来说是最重要的指标之一,它直接关系到汽车齿轮的使用寿命。淬透性低,则不能使汽车齿轮以高的硬度表面去承受巨大的载荷、接触应力和磨损;反之,淬透性过高,虽然满足了汽车齿轮表面高硬度的要求,但是汽车齿轮心部的冲击韧性又太低,不能达到汽车齿轮内韧外硬的要求。
