At the time of reading, the semantic meaning of the lexicon is directly accessible through voice or visual communication, causing great controversy in academia. In this study, we use semantic association to judge tasks and take Chinese advanced English learners as experimental subjects to compare their lexical and semantic access paths in Chinese-English reading. The results showed that when the homophones were semantically correlated, the subjects not only had a significantly higher error rate than the control conditions, but also judged the speed of speech to be significantly slower and showed the effect of voice interference. This provides strong evidence for the automatic activation of phonetic information obtained in Chinese-English vocabulary reading and supports the view that vocabulary semantics of the Chinese-English reading are accessible through voice.
