2009年秋天,临夏州某狐场发现李氏杆菌病流行,且主要发生在幼狐。李氏杆菌病是一种由单细胞李斯特氏杆菌引起动物和人的散发性传染病,发病率17%,死亡率达60%以上。其临床特征为神经机能障碍,病狐随意转圈,紧张、嘶咬自身（主要是臀部和尾部）,同时伴有尖叫,面部神经麻痹和流产以及败血症。病程约5-7天,少部分达40天。病理学变化主要在肝脏、脑部和心脏等组织出现炎性坏死。
