由藻菌类的Phytophthora属病原菌侵害引起的病害,通称为植物疫病。同一种植物可由二种以上的Phytophthora属病原菌侵害致病。如蕃茄,已知有三种疫病菌引起的疫病,即蕃茄疫病(P.infestans)蕃茄灰色疫病(P.Capsici)和蕃茄褐色腐败病(P.nicotinanae)。疫病病原菌属名为phytophthora,本属病菌侵害植物比一般病原体剧烈,具有极强的软化腐败性。患病部常伴有细菌和镰刀菌Fusarium,给病害诊断带来困难。疫病菌器官形态多样。它具有少量游动孢子,是传染蔓延的主体,可作为本病菌的一个重要特性。日本的疫病按性质可分南方系和北方系。南方系有P.nicotianae,P.capsici,P.drechsleri,P.palmivora,P.colocasiae等。北万系有P.porri,P.cactorum,P.infestans等。前者发育界限是35℃左右,后者大约在30℃以下,一般在土壤中不易渡过夏季高温期。
