《长生殿》中下场诗各出均采用“集唐”的方式,且都为七言四句,体制整齐规范,在剧中发挥了重要的艺术功能:不仅十分贴合剧情,还适时地营造出了该剧中特定的意境和氛围,丰富了人物形象,并传达出作者之意。洪昇采用“集唐”的方式创作下场诗不仅源自于其诗歌宗唐的旨归,也是展现其文学艺术才能的需求,而且受到了其时诗歌领域“集唐”风气的影响,同时更是以唐诗之雅融入戏曲之俗中,从而提高戏曲之品格的根本目的之所在。
