2002年8月28日,阔别大学校园17年后,我终于又跨进了教室,重新成为一名学生。一在美国旧金山州立大学的教室里的第一堂课,名为“高级短篇小说写作”。教授这门课的是一位10年前本系的毕业生,名叫卡尔。全班16名同学中,只有我和另一位韩裔小伙子是亚洲面孔,其余的学生全部是纯粹的白人。和在中国上大学一样,老师让我们逐一进行自我介绍。我没有提及我在中国的写作经验。我只是说,我想当一名双语作家,让美国读者了解更真实的中国和中国人民。
On August 28, 2002, 17 years after leaving college, I finally stepped back into the classroom again to become a student again. The first lesson in a classroom at San Francisco State University, called “Advanced Short Story Writing.” Professor of this course is a graduate of this department 10 years ago, called Carl. Of the 16 classmates in the class, only me and another Korean boy are Asian faces, and the rest of the students are purely white. As in college in China, the teacher let us introduce ourselves one by one. I did not mention my writing experience in China. I just said that I want to be a bilingual writer, let American readers know more real Chinese and Chinese people.
