我很高兴能有这样一个机会同大家见面,也感谢宋健主任和天津市科委给了我这样一个讲话的机会。我从1979年第一次到中国来,以后差不多每年都要来一次。每次回来都看到我们国家是有进步的。大家知道,做任何一件事,开始总是很难的。我认为中国在科技的应用方面已经突破了最困难的阶段。事实上,凡是没有什么困难的事,一定会很平凡的。科学研究也是这样,如果没有困难,就什么人都可以做,面临许多困难的研究工作,才是最有价值的。工作碰到困难不完全是体制上不完善,世界上没有非常完善的体制。看了你们的科工贸一 I am very pleased to have such an opportunity to meet with you and also thank the Director Song Jian and Tianjin Science and Technology Commission for giving me such a chance to speak. I came to China for the first time in 1979 and will come almost once a year afterwards. Every time you come back, we see progress in our country. We all know that to do anything, the beginning is always difficult. I think China has broken through the most difficult stage in the application of science and technology. In fact, anything that is not difficult will surely be trivial. The same is true of scientific research. If there is no difficulty, it can be done by anybody and it is most valuable to face many difficult research work.
