IP routing is divided into two broad categories: Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) and External Gateway Protocol (EGP). IGP runs inside a proprietary system, typically a corporate or service operator’s internal independent network. EGP provides the interconnection between these systems so that IP datagrams can be routed through complex IP networks that make up the Internet. IGP is divided into two categories: distance
