We compared the ability of α_2-adrenoceptor antagonists idazoxan (Ida), yohimbine (Yoh) and a cholinesterase inhibitor 5-(1,3,3-trimethylindoline) N,N dimethyl carbamate hydrochloride (TMDMC) to reverse xylazine-ketamine-induced anesthesia in dogs. At weekly intervals six dogs were intramuscularly (ira) injected with xylazine 15 mg/kg and ketamine 15 mg/kg, followed in 30 min by either antagonists or water for injection alone. The duration from injection of antagonists to the return of consciousness (head-up) was determined.The water for injection produced an arousal duration for 184±SD 45 rain.
