This article begins with the analysis of the kinship of language and points out that there are two different translation methods for literal translation and free translation, which are suitable for each other. However, in most cases, they should be used together rather than neglected. Because in essence, the ultimate goal of translation is only to require the translator to use the closest language and the most exquisite text to reproduce and therefore the meaning of the original text. Based on this understanding, this article further believes that the so-called “letter, up, elegant” is actually a comprehensive test and evaluation of the level of “reproduction” or “re-combination” of meaning in translation.
